I don't usually write these...
Hell, I'm not usually on DeviantArt anymore, sadly.
BUT I have my reasons for being back; mostly to admire the beautiful art [and animations - you know who you are!]
So, I decided that if I had artsy stuff to say - which obviously hasn't been the topic of my last journals, but I digress - that I would post the thoughts here.
I know that no one actually reads these most of the time, but honestly I don't care, I just wanna write my thoughts down. I've never been one to keep a journal/diary for more than three days, so this is better.
Anyway! I had an idea the other day... I decided that I wanted to improve my drawing skills, and I knew that wasn't just going to magically happen overnight. So, I went and picked up a fresh sketchbook [a small one so it could be more portable!] and I intend to try to draw someone every day if not every other day.
My goal is to practice realism [or, semi-realism] and hopefully by the end of the sketchbook [which is decently thick] I will have a better grasp on... well... people. By being able to draw realistically, I will be able to draw my simplified, cartoony sketches more accurately and hopefully develop a better style that I can be proud of.
After all, no artist is born with amazing skill - it's something they have to work at, and I intend to do just that.
I painted the sketchbook to look like a watermelon yesterday and today I sketched my first portrait!
granted, many of the sketches in the book will likely be from reference images, found on Google, of various people and celebrities that I like, but practice is practice.
Today, of course, I
had to sketch Eddie Redmayne! [who else could I
possibly choose as the first face? ;D]
I took some pictures with my phone, so maybe I'll upload one here in a minute. I started writing this journal 'cause I'm waiting for the picture to arrive in my email inbox. [because I haven't the faintest idea where my cable is to transfer it directly from my phone to my computer]
yikes, long Journal!
please ignore any grammatical or spelling mistakes as it is quite late and I'm a tad drowsy
